Ridgewood NJ newborn photographer | bergen county newborn photographer

Yesterday I had a pregnant client come in for a newborn session consultation at my studio in Ridgewood.  I really enjoy having consultations at my photo studio before parents come in with their baby the day of the session.  This is a great opportunity for us to get to know each other and chat about the session itself as well as discuss plans for the images after the session.  Your newborn will grow so fast, therefore it’s very important that you select your newborn photographer with care–there is no “do-over” option when it comes to newborn portraits.

Here is a little glimpse at what happens during a pre-session meeting at my studio. First I welcome the clients into my shooting room:

Before coming in the studio, many parents ask if they are required to bring their own props. As you can see, I have plenty of options so parents do not need to bring anything at all with them for the session.   There is such a benefit to having the session done at my studio as opposed to in a house because I have more things at my studio then could ever fit in the trunk of my car.  I have the temperature just right and the necessary lighting equipment perfectly calibrated so that each and every session yields consistent results.  I have been in business since 2007 and have had over 450 newborns at my studio.  I have this down to a science and guarantee that clients will receive clean, classic and timeless images of their newborn that they will treasure for a lifetime.

Common Questions asked during a consultation:

Are you the only person here during the session?
Yes.  Nobody else is in the studio or will handle your baby.  Everything is cleaned after each session and nobody ever comes to have their picture taken while they are sick.

What happens if my baby is really fussy?
This definitely happens!  I always stress the importance of doing the session during first 2 weeks while newborns are typically at their sleepiest. Most newborns fall asleep in the car so they usually arrive sound asleep in their carseat.  I take my time taking the baby out of the carseat and transitioning onto the beanbag to start the session.  Sometimes babies wake up and cry.  But with a full belly and warm temperature, babies tend to fall asleep eventually or at the very least calm down when wrapped for some awesome wide awake shots.  I have lots of tricks up my sleeve from years of  training and experience, so 99% of the time we are done within 2 hours.  A few times things have taken longer, but in the end I guarantee that we will capture gorgeous images.

What happens if it’s a really cloudy and dark day?
I love natural light, but I have lighting equipment set up at my studio to ensure that every image is lit correctly and there is no “making do” when the natural light is not ideal.

Do you take pictures with the parents/siblings too?
Yes! I always include the parents and siblings during the newborn session and encourage new parents to get in front of the camera.

What should we wear?
I recommend neutral colors and for family/sibling images it is better to coordinate rather than match.  I like simple tops without a lot of patterns so that there is no distraction.  We want the focus to me on you and your tiny new baby.

What do the products look like?
At the end of the meeting I show clients all of the sample products.  I get a lot of questions about the sizes.  16×20 sounds BIG to some people but then when they see what that looks like on the wall they realize that it isn’t too big at all.  Digital images are GREAT to have and most of my clients do purchase their images on CD.  But nothing can compare to having something tangible to show off in your home from your session.  This is why all of my clients walk away with something printed to go along with their digital files.  I am a full service boutique photographer and offer a variety of products ranging from wrapped canvases and wooden gallery mounts to albums and keepsake boxes.
