Family vacation to Maui

Every summer we love to take a family vacation to a new destination. It’s a great time for me to take lots of photos for fun and we make so many memories as a family. This summer we had a Bat Mitzvah to attend in Seattle so we decided on Maui as our destination since we’re already halfway to Hawaii when we are on the west coast. We spent 4 days in Seattle (and stayed in a tiny house airbnb!) and then a week on Maui and then 2 days in LA visiting my best friend before flying back to NJ.

Day 1 Arrive in Maui and check into our airbnb in Kihei. We really loved this location because it made for a great base in exploring the whole island. And our condo had a washing machine and kitchen which was very useful for us as we like to pack light. As a bonus, the beach at the condo we saw turtles every morning- I could see them without needing to wear goggles.

Day 2 We went north and explored Baby Beach (kids loved snorkeling here) which was empty early in the AM and then went on to Kaanapali and DT Fleming Beach. On the way back we shopped at Whaler’s Village. Dinner at Monkeypod Kitchen was great!

Day 3 We did the Road to Hana and had a long but wonderful day. We left before 8am and got back after 8pm and saw almost everything that I wanted to. The only thing we didn’t get to was the Pipiwai Trail . We relied on the Shakra Guide App which I highly recommend and kept all of us entertained while we were in the car. We saw lots of waterfalls – even had one all to ourselves for about 5 minutes – went into a couple of caves, and loved the black sand beach at Wai’anapanapa State Park.

Day 4 We spent most of the day at Maluaka Beach where we saw more turtles and then did a photo session at sunset with Wilde Sparrow Photography!! Photos from that to share soon!!

Day 5 We beach hopped a bit to Keawakapu Beach and Secret Cove (too rough to actually swim in but absolutely gorgeous) and Makena State Park. We watched the sunset at Ukumehame Beach. Dinner at Leoda’s Pie shop. YUM

Day 6 We got up early to hike the Waihe’e Ridge Trail, which was HARD. Really Hard. But it was so amazing to literally be in the clouds – there were helicopters below us at one point. This was very strenuous and we spent the afternoon just hanging out on the beach because we were all sore.

Day 7 We stopped in Lahaina to see the Banyan Tree park and then continued on to do the Kapaula Coastal trail hike which was gorgeous and very un-crowded. This was a much easier hike than the day before!! After we finished we just enjoyed time at Kapalua beach.

Day 8 we had a 11:30am flight to LA. Until next time!!

Ok now for some photos!!
