We love to travel and the past few years we have been able to do big trips again now that the girls are getting older. Last year we had a fantastic time in Kauai and the summer before we went to France and Spain. This summer we had a 2+ week adventure that took us to Rome, Sardinia (including a day trip to Corsica) and Paris. I LOVE planning and researching and after sharing some photos on Facebook I was asked for more info on our itinerary, so here it is!
Days 1- 3: Rome with friends where we walked EVERYWHERE. We did a food tasting walking tour, went to the Vatican, Colosseum, Forum, Trevi Fountain, Spanish steps, Pantheon. We stayed right in Piazza Navona at a cozy airbnb apartment that I highly recommend
Day 4: We flew to Olbia Sardinia (a cheap and easy 38 minute flight) and then drove a little over 2 hours to our rental villa in Lanusei which was absolutely stunning.
Day 5: We went on a hike in the Selene Forest very close to our villa. We got lost in our car trying to find the trailhead and at one point rolled down our window to ask for help from two ladies getting water at a fountain. They didn’t really speak English and we don’t speak well enough Italian but they understood where we wanted to go. They said “follow us” and got in their car and drove for about 5 miles on these little mountain roads leading us to the trail. We are so impressed by how helpful people are! In the later part of the day we went down to Bari Sardo, a lovely beach that wasn’t crowded at all.
Day 6: Our airbnb host arranged for us to go out on a friend’s sailboat from Arbatax along the gorgeous coast! Completely free! This was the highlight of our time in Sardinia. We were able to swim at Cala Goloritze one of the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever seen and we also stopped at Cala Mariolu before turning around to go back. We also enjoyed our time getting to know Luca and Lorenzo who were so generous in taking us out for the whole day and showing us the stunning scenery.
Day 7: In the morning our Airbnb host lead us to Lido di Orri where we spent a few hours relaxing, snorkeling and swimming. Then in the late afternoon we went up to Banuei to take in the views and up to the Golgo where we saw goats, donkeys and horses.
Day 8: We drove to Su Gologone for lunch. Amazing place and would love to go back and spend a night here. We drove on to our next villa in the north in Barrabisa
Day 9: We explored the Costa Smeralda and especially loved Spiaggia del Principe
Day 10: We did a day excursion to the La Maddalena Archipelago which was an incredible day.
Day 11: We drove to Castelsardo for the day, a charming postcard-perfect town with little beach.
Day 12: This was a huge highlight for me. We took a 1 hour ferry to Corsica for the day. Chris and I have been to Corsica on a separate trip to the northern part of the island. This time we were in the south in Bonifacio and it was absolutely wonderful to walk around the old village as well as the marina. We all agreed we must go back to Corsica and see more of the island.
Day 13: Flew to Paris (1.5 hours) and stayed at this wonderful apartment right by the Eiffel Tower (and only 1.5 blocks from where I lived back in the summer of 2000 when I was a waitress). The last time we were in Paris it rained for us almost every day so we immediately walked to the Eiffel Tower (took the stairs!) and took advantage of the perfect weather. We spent the evening in our “old neighborhood” from our trip two summers ago and the girls played in the Luxembourg Gardens.
Day 14 and 15: Musee D’Orsay, Bateaux Mouche boat ride, Zoo, Latin Quarter, Notre Dame, Arc de Triomphe, Trocadero. Pretty much we walked a TON!
Day 16 we flew home and are already talking about where we should go next!
I edited 430 photos so here is a small sampling. And here is the link to my ETSY store where I sell fine art travel prints and canvases.
